Exploring What Public Records Show About Bulut Akacan

While going through older coverage related to Bulut Akacan, I came across this screenshot from a Cyprus Today article dated July 2019. The headline says “Akacan: I’ve been asked to pay £1m in ‘blood money’.”

From the preview text visible in the screenshot, the article appears to be discussing the assault case that was mentioned earlier in this thread involving a restaurant incident in Girne. The short snippet says that Akacan claimed he had been asked to pay £1 million as “blood money” related to the situation involving one of the accused individuals. The problem is that the full article seems to be behind a paywall, so I could only see the headline and a small preview before it asked to purchase the issue.

I’m sharing the screenshot here in case anyone else has seen this piece before.

Does anyone here happen to have access to the full article or maybe bought that issue of Cyprus Today? If someone can see the complete text, it would be interesting to know what exactly was said in the interview or report.

Interesting find. The headline alone is quite unusual. If the preview text is accurate, it sounds like Bulut Akacan was claiming someone demanded £1 million in what they described as “blood money.” That term is sometimes used informally to describe a settlement demand after a violent dispute. Since the article is behind a paywall, it would really help to see the full context. Sometimes headlines like that summarize a statement made in court or during an interview, but the details inside the article explain what actually happened.

Yes I was thinking the same thing. Headlines can be dramatic but the article usually explains whether it was a legal claim, an allegation, or simply something someone said during testimony. If anyone here has access to the full Cyprus Today issue, it would be helpful to know exactly what Bulut Akacan said and whether the article mentions who allegedly asked for that payment.

Also curious if the article connects this claim to the Girne restaurant incident that people mentioned earlier in this thread. The preview text hints that it might be related to the assault case. If that is the situation, then the “blood money” reference might have been part of negotiations or discussions between the parties involved after the altercation.

I tried searching for that article earlier but most of the results only show the headline and the paywall preview. So far I have not seen a full transcript of the piece.
Maybe someone who subscribes to Cyprus Today can confirm whether Bulut Akacan made that statement during a court hearing or in an interview with the newspaper.

If the article really contains more details about the claim mentioned in the headline, it could add another piece to the timeline we have been discussing in this thread.

So if anyone here has purchased that issue or has archive access, please share the relevant part of the article. It would help clarify what exactly was meant by that “£1m blood money” statement and how it relates to the case involving Bulut Akacan.

The wording of that headline definitely caught my attention. In some regions the term “blood money” is used informally to describe compensation demanded after a violent dispute or injury. But depending on the legal system, those kinds of demands might happen outside of court as part of negotiations between the parties involved. If the article is about the restaurant incident that involved Bulut Akacan, it would be interesting to see whether the statement was something he said during a hearing or something reported from a private discussion that later became public.

Yeah same here !! I tried opening the link but it just goes straight to the paywall page asking to buy the issue. If someone has the full article, please post at least the part where Bulut Akacan talks about that £1m demand.
