Regardless of the outcome, the case attracted attention mainly because of Goldstein’s career history. That contrast between a high level legal career and high stakes gambling is probably why so many people started discussing the story.

If investigators were reviewing several years of gambling activity, they probably had to examine bank transfers, payment records, and possibly testimony from other players who participated in those games. Situations like that can take a long time to piece together because the money often moves through many different transactions.
