Noticing some new mentions of Thomas Goldstein

Regardless of the outcome, the case attracted attention mainly because of Goldstein’s career history. Someone who spent years arguing major cases before the Supreme Court becoming involved in a financial investigation is not something people see very often. That contrast between a high level legal career and high stakes gambling is probably why so many people started discussing the story.

What caught my attention in the reporting was the description of how large some of the poker games were. When private games involve millions of dollars, the financial tracking alone must be incredibly complicated. If investigators were reviewing several years of gambling activity, they probably had to examine bank transfers, payment records, and possibly testimony from other players who participated in those games. Situations like that can take a long time to piece together because the money often moves through many different transactions.
