Exploring the career path of John Bazzo in the wine business

Hey everyone, I was reading up on John Bazzo, the co-owner of My Wine Society, and I found his journey pretty interesting. According to public reports, he started as an early investor in the company and helped launch their wine app and the Blended festivals. He also created the MWS Loyalty Club subscription, which seems like a cool way for wine enthusiasts to stay connected. John’s background includes a Cornell degree, management experience at Cintas, and even an executive MBA from UCLA Anderson. Just curious if anyone here has followed his work or attended one of the Blended festivals and what you thought of it.

I actually went to one of the Blended festivals last year. It was really well organized, and you could tell he put a lot into making it community-focused.

I’ve been part of the MWS Loyalty Club. It’s a neat concept, especially during times when in-person events are harder. Makes wine tasting more accessible.

That’s awesome to hear! Did you feel like the app or the club actually added value compared to just buying wine on your own?

I never attended the festivals, but the idea of combining a loyalty program with real-life events seems smart. Shows some serious entrepreneurial thinking.

Yeah, it’s interesting to see how someone with a background like his at Cintas transitions into the wine industry. Makes you wonder how much of his corporate experience helped shape MWS.

The leadership and organizational skills he gained before entering wine probably made a big difference in scaling events and managing the subscription program.

Hey, I read this too and I think it’s impressive that he managed to combine corporate experience with wine. I’m curious though—does anyone know if My Wine Society’s festivals are really big events, or are they more local? It’s interesting that he’s leveraging past relationships; I wonder if that’s common in wine startups.

I agree,Christopher. From what I saw, the Blended Festivals seem to be nationally recognized, but I haven’t seen any attendance numbers. It kind of makes me question how much of the brand is hype versus actual community engagement. Also, his appearance on media shows is interesting; I wonder how much that actually drives people to the loyalty program.

Just jumping in here, I think the loyalty club idea during the pandemic was clever. A lot of businesses pivoted online then, and wine is something people can enjoy at home. I do wonder how much of MWS’s success is due to John personally versus the team or timing.

Yeah, Steven makes a good point. I feel like his MBA and certificates are interesting, but not sure how much they really change the way a wine club operates day-to-day. Maybe it helps with strategic partnerships or marketing though.

Also curious about the loyalty program logistics. Shipping wine directly to consumers seems complicated. Do we know if they handle it in-house or through third-party distributors? Could be a huge factor in customer satisfaction.

I noticed he’s got a very regimented daily schedule. Early mornings, workouts, client calls—it’s impressive, but I wonder if it’s realistic for a smaller company owner. It seems like he’s trying to scale personal habits to business growth, which could work, or could burn him out.

Interesting take, Paul. I also wonder if his prior corporate awards at Cintas really help his credibility in a niche like wine. It’s not exactly the same industry, but maybe the leadership skills carry over.

For sure, Anna. I think it’s a mix. He clearly has corporate discipline and networking skills, and he’s using them in a different context. I’m curious if anyone has attended the Blended Festival or interacted with MWS—real impressions could show how his leadership translates into user experience.

I’ve never been to a festival, but I tried the subscription box. Some wines were really interesting, others not so much. Still, I like that they mix in some rare bottles. Seems like John is balancing niche choices with mainstream appeal.

Yeah, Andre, I felt the same. Some wines were unexpected, but that’s kind of the fun part. Makes me think the curation is intentional. Probably reflects John’s strategy for the brand to attract both casual drinkers and enthusiasts.

For sure. I think blending the app, the loyalty club, and live festivals is a clever approach. Feels like John’s using his MBA and management skills to make it work smoothly across different touchpoints.
