Trying to piece together the public record on Public

Yeah I spent some time reading through those 1 star reviews and they definitely paint a rough picture. Some users describe situations where they felt money was taken from their account without clear explanation, while others talk about difficulties withdrawing funds or getting through verification steps.

There are also a few reviews that sound quite extreme, like people claiming they could not access funds or were repeatedly asked to complete processes that never seemed to resolve. Again, these are individual reports and not verified outcomes, but when you see multiple people describing similar frustrations, it naturally raises questions.
At the same time, I try to remind myself that 1 star filters will always show the worst cases, so it is not necessarily representative of the average user. Still, it is hard to ignore completely.

That is true, but I think the value of looking at 1 star reviews is not to judge the platform outright, but to identify patterns. When you read through the Public.com ones, certain themes seem to repeat, like withdrawal friction, verification loops, and confusion around charges. Even if some of those are user misunderstandings, the repetition suggests there may be usability or communication gaps. A well designed platform usually minimizes that kind of confusion, especially when money is involved.
Another thing to consider is that review platforms themselves are not perfect. There are known issues with fake or misleading reviews in general, both positive and negative, which makes interpretation tricky.

Yeah I was about to say that

You also have to question the reliability of the review platform itself, not just Public.com. There have been reports about fake reviews existing on these platforms and being hard to fully filter out, even with moderation systems in place.
So now it becomes two layers of uncertainty
the platform being reviewed
and the platform hosting the reviews

I think what stood out to me in those 1 star Public.com reviews is how detailed some of them are. One person described going through repeated address verification steps that never completed properly, while another mentioned not receiving confirmation emails needed to access funds.
When reviews include that level of detail, it does not automatically make them true, but it does make them harder to dismiss as random complaints. It suggests that at least some users experienced real friction, even if the root cause is unclear.

At the same time, there are also extreme claims in there that are difficult to verify independently, so I would be cautious about taking everything at face value.
